New Year's holidays are always a good time to review the year that we are leaving behind and think about what we can do to be better. As the year behind us has brought a lot of turbulence, it is the right time to once again, collectively, ask ourselves what acceptance of diversity means for us. As human beings, at every moment we are tasked with enriching our environment and learning from each other. In order to successfully solve this task, we need to strive daily for an atmosphere of acceptance of people who are different from us, to listen to them in order to integrate their experiences into our consciousness and, based on this, to be able to correct exclusionary, negative behaviors.
The way we accept people with Down syndrome has a positive effect on their socialization, development of communication and daily life skills. In order to enable people with Down syndrome to achieve their social interactions outside the family circle, the support of the general public for their inclusion in society is necessary.
In order to facilitate the employment of people with Down syndrome, in collaboration with their long-term partner, FCB Canada and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) created Inployable, a recruitment community on LinkedIn.
North America is currently experiencing a labor shortage. With millions of job vacancies, finding qualified candidates who meet the job requirements is becoming a top concern for employers.
Over 50% of people with Down syndrome have problems finding work. The main reason lies in the fact that people with Down syndrome are mistakenly perceived by their environment as less capable. An additional obstacle for employment of people with Down syndrome is the connection with employers, because even if employers are interested in hiring someone with Down syndrome, there is no possibility of digital connection. Due to these circumstances, CDSS and FCB Canada are launching a solution: Inployable, the world's first network for employment of people with Down syndrome.
In order to become aware of the problems that different groups have, we need solutions like Inployable, because only by working together we can create a climate for positive changes and thus become an empathetic and responsible society ready to accept those who are different from ourselves.
